Tepale

Tepale is a "chamara"; and what's a "chamara" you ask? Well, there are as many meanings for the word "chamara" as there are chamaras themselves. Some people say that the word, in Hebrew, means a burrow or cubbyhole. Others explain that the word originates from Tunisia where it means a small pub or bar. Amongst the traders in the Iraqi market of Machaneh Yehuda, "chanara" has come to mean a small café where you can drink strong, Iraqi tea, strong coffee and play backgammon for hours on end. One thing everybody agrees on, in the chamara, the acoustics are always excellent – an audio mixture of friendly arguments, uproarious laughter, people saying hello and the click of dice and backgammon pieces.

To see and experience it for yourself, you'll have to pay us a visit…
